BIRKENSTOCK is a well-known German company that produces orthopedic shoes. The full name is Birkenstock Orthopedie GmbH & Co. It earned the fame thanks to the convenience, environmental friendliness of materials and maintaining healthy feet.
History of Birkenstock company and creation of insoles
Back in 1774, the shoemaker Johann Birkenstock lived in the city of Langenberg. He was an excellent master of his craft. To order shoes, people came to him from neighboring cities.
This is how the shoemaking craft was passed from generation to generation in this family. And already in 1896 Konrad Birkenstock continued the work of his great-grandfather. He opened two shoe stores in Frankfurt am Main, where he sold shoes, insoles and last he created himself.
In 1902, Konrad presented his invention to the world – an insole that perfectly repeats all the irregularities of the foot. This is how the Birkenstock soft orthopedic insole was created, which allows you to stay in your shoes for a long time without getting tired. This breakthrough in the shoe world has served its creator well.
It was Konrad Birkenstock who was approached during the First World War with the proposal to create unique shoes, customized individually for each wounded soldier.
In 1925, both of Konrad’s sons joined the family’s shoe production. In the same year, a shoe factory was bought in Friedberg. The demand for orthopedic insoles and footwear became so great that production did not stop day or night.
Secret of success of Birkenstock shoes

Returning home to the States, the woman created a company to import these shoes.
Margot went the smart way and offered to sell Birkenstock sandals in stores and pharmacies that cared for a healthy lifestyle. It was a great move. Over time, the growth in environmental and health awareness has grown. And the higher it got, the better the BIRKENSTOCK orthopedic products sold.
In 1990, a pair of BIRKENSTOCK Arizona sandals was recognized in the USA as the most environmentally friendly. It was used by fashion designers on the catwalks when creating collections dedicated to ecology and the fight against environmental issues.
