Every parent wants to dress their child beautifully, comfortably and so that both the parent and the baby like it. But this does not always succeed immediately. Sometimes a buyer and a manufacturer do not have the same idea of good children’s clothing. Then some parents continue to search for what they want, while others decide to get down to business themselves. This is how the French brand of children’s clothing Catimini, known today in many countries, was born.
A few words about the history of Catimini brand
It happened more than 40 years ago, back in 1972, when Monique and Paul Salmon presented their first collection of children’s clothing. They got married in 1970, and in 1971 they had a daughter, Caty. The birth of a daughter prompted the couple to create a family business for the production of children’s clothing, which they named after her – Caty mini.
Prior to that, neither Monique nor Paul Salmon had any experience designing or manufacturing clothing. But they had a clear idea of what they, as parents, want to see in children’s outfits. Paul, as a graduate of the Faculty of Finance at the University of Economics in Paris, has developed an effective economic model for the development of a family business. Its development strategy included the solution of three tasks.
- One determined what they would do,
- the second – as the least costly and most effective,
- the third – where to promote their brand.
Solving the first problem, they decided for themselves that they would stake on the development of a collection of bright, colorful outfits with elements of ethnicity. The 70s was a time when young parents were fond of the hippie style with its bright oriental motives, and for children they continued to produce outfits that their grandmothers liked in the classic bourgeois style.
The creators of the brand relied on new trends of bright colors, more freedom of expression, borrowing ornaments from the East and Africa. And in this they had almost no competitors.
Distinctive features of the brand Catimini
They had to start production from scratch. Recent students did not have the necessary funds for the full-scale deployment of production with the purchase of premises and equipment. But Paul found a way out that no one had used in the production of clothing before him. He turned to the ateliers already working in different parts of Paris and launched production on their basis. This allowed to save money and time, and get the return faster.
The third move, which was also quite new for that time, involved advertising a new brand. They attracted good photographers to create the visual image of the new children’s clothing and placed not only advertisements in popular fashion and style magazines, but also took them directly to the streets of Paris, placing advertising photos on posters.
These photographs were voted the best among such advertisements for children’s clothing. This was the beginning of the fame of this brand, first in France, and then gradually in the world. It turned out that the name of the caty mini brand began to be written together, as a result of which the famous Catimini arose.
Today this name is known in 40 countries of the world, where 150 branded stores of this brand operate. The lines are divided by gender and age of children, including almost everything a child needs, from slippers to perfume:
- for babies: from one month to three years;
- Mini Kid for girls and boys from 1 to 8 years old;
- girls from 4 to 16 years old;
- boys from 4 to 14 years old.
